Students will learn the basics of hand sewing from clothing artist Sarah Gingold, the founder of Think Outside the Store (the sewing studio right beyond the classrooms of CREATE) and how to apply them in making and decorating three dimensional fabric objects such as toys, pillows, or wearable accessories, based on their own interests and imagination. (Ages 8-12)
The best comics are those with relatable characters and great stories. Well have fun sharpening our visual storytelling skills. Students will develop characters and storylines based on their own style and imagination. As the class progresses, each students options will include a series of single or multi-panel comic strips, a collection of character sketches, or the creation of a comic book (the first few pages or the completed book " quality storytelling takes time!). (Ages 8-12)
Beyond Creativity will explore realism through drawing and sculpture techniques, moving each student BEYOND the basics. Through engaging and challenging projects using a variety of materials, each artist will learn to hone his/ her observational skills in order to create artwork that reflects what he/ she envisions. Students will learn how composition, perspective, and shading will help them realistically translate what they see onto canvas. (Age 12-15)
