Warrior Canine Connection (WCC) is a therapeutic service dog training program designed to naturally reduce the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and traumatic brain injury in veterans and service members. WCC is offered at the National Intrepid Center of Excellence on the campus of Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. It has been proven that interaction with animals reduces biological and psychological symptoms of depression and stress. Hear more on how the program works and the future promise it holds for treating more than 300,000 Warriors suffering from PTSD. WCC dogs will also be on hand for the program!

Are you ready to take your short story draft to the next level? Need help completing the draft? Longing for motivation to begin? This workshop is designed to meet those needs, creating a helpful, supportive workshop atmosphere for all participants. The goal is for each writer to present a successful draft, with emphasis on encouragement, hard work, and practical suggestions. The workshop leader will provide detailed written comments on all manuscripts.

Students will turn in drafts of their own writing each week for workshopping. The goal is to craft and revise a finished product for submission.

Founded in 1970, the Gaithersburg Fine Arts Association has grown to more than 80 members, who regularly exhibit their work, actively teach or contribute to Montgomery County arts events. The paintings on display represent a variety of media and will be available for sale. Juried by Jordon Bruns, who received a B.F.A. in Painting and Illustration at Maryland Institute College of Art and M.F.A. in Painting at Indiana University. Young, orphaned James Trotter is sent to live with his two wicked aunts by the sea. Life with Sponge and Spiker - who make James wait on them hand and foot - is the pits. James' luck begins to change when he is gifted a mysterious bag of crocodile tongues that bring marvelous and magical things. One giant peach, five oversized bugs, and many seagulls later, James and his new friends are off on an exciting adventure across the Atlantic. This unlikely crew sails to new and fantastical heights, proving that courage and ingenuity can overcome all odds. (ages 4-10)
