Let's demystify dialogue. We'll explore "real talk" versus written conversation, analyze what characters should say and how they should say it, and identify how speech creates action and propels story forward. The appropriate use of tags, dialects, and direct and indirect dialogue will also be examined.

Having a good subject is not enough to make a great photograph. In this workshop we look at all aspects of composition, learning to eliminate dead space, boring presentation, and distracting details. We cover compositional techniques that allow the photographer to capture the viewer's attention and direct the eye.

You will learn how to use advanced camera functions. We'll cover the use of affordable accessories and helpful gadgets, on camera flash basics, composing images of people and groups everything you need to take better photos of your life, holidays, vacations and kids. Prerequisite: You will need to have taken Introduction to Digital, Photography or be able to operate a Digital SLR camera in full manual mode - able to adjust aperture, shutter speed & ISO - to obtain the desired exposure and depth of field.

Introduction to Digital Photography will teach you the basics needed to take the photographs you want! Bring your own Digital SLR camera and learn with hands-on instruction. You will learn camera functions, composition, depth of field, exposure, avoiding common mistakes, the use of available light, and more. This workshop meets for a total of four sessions, three hours for each session. During the third session, classes will meet for a field trip to photograph the National Gallery of Art, Union Station, or other D.C. location. Weeknight classes will meet on a Saturday for their third session.
