"Form, Function and Symbol: The Meaning of Hats" looks at the reasons we wear hats, in the past and the present, using Montgomery County residents as examples. Different styles, shapes and colors of headwear can be used to create and maintain an identity, both personally and as part of a group. In this exhibit, hats of all varieties, as well as photos, tell the story of who we are and who we want to be.

Flower Avenue Market

The Flower Avenue Market runs every Saturday April through December – offering shoppers an array of antiques, art, autographs, books, china, collectibles, clothing and accessories, crafts, decorative glass, furniture, household items, toys and countless other items. Food, entertainment and special guests are also a part of the festivities. This market does a lot of social good, too. Orion’s Attic (market organizer) makes donations to IMPACT Silver Spring and provide coaching and training to new entrepreneurs that IMPACT is nurturing. The market also employs local teenagers and provides them with entrepreneurial opportunities and training. The market also reserves several spaces a week for nonprofits that use the free space to raise awareness and funds for their worthy causes. New vendors always welcome.
