Join us each Tuesday evening in June for a series of performances set in the beauty of the gardens! This week check out Oasis Island Sound. Enjoy popular Caribbean dance music, including, Reggae, Calypso, Steel drums, and African music.

This mid-level course will focus on producing key types of nonfiction, such as short and long form personal essays, topical news articles, literary journalism, Q&A's (practicing the art of skillful interviewing), and more. Writers will prepare six finished pieces for constructive critique from teacher and class.

Introduction to Digital Photography will teach you the basics needed to take the photographs you want! Bring your own Digital SLR camera and learn with hands-on instruction. You will learn camera functions, composition, depth of field, exposure, avoiding common mistakes, the use of available light, and more. This workshop meets for a total of four sessions, three hours for each session. During the third session, classes will meet for a field trip to photograph the National Gallery of Art, Union Station, or other D.C. location. Weeknight classes will meet on a Saturday for their third session.

You will learn how to use advanced camera functions. We'll cover the use of affordable accessories and helpful gadgets, on camera flash basics, composing images of people and groups everything you need to take better photos of your life, holidays, vacations and kids. Prerequisite: You will need to have taken Introduction to Digital, Photography or be able to operate a Digital SLR camera in full manual mode - able to adjust aperture, shutter speed & ISO - to obtain the desired exposure and depth of field.

A workshop that combines reading modern short story writers, writing exercises, roundtable discussion and workshopping participants stories with a focus on understanding and unifying the fundamental elements of the modern short story into a fully realized short story.
