AFI Docs, (formally Silverdocs), called “Non-Fiction Nirvana” by Variety, the “Pre-eminent documentary Festival in the US” by Screen International and the “premiere showcase for documentary film” by Hollywood Reporter, has just completed its 10th anniversary festival.
This seven-day international film festival and five-day concurrent conference promotes documentary film as a leading art form, supports the work of independent filmmakers and fosters an atmosphere for public dialogue and civic engagement around the issues and ideas explored in the films.
Silverdocs plays host to attendees from across the globe with a diverse range of films, filmmakers and film subjects representing more than 40 countries.
Silverdocs takes place in and around downtown Silver Spring, Maryland – just minutes from downtown Washington, DC - at the AFI Silver Theatre, the flagship theatre of the AFI, one of the premier film exhibition spaces in the country, and the top art house cinema in the region.
Silverdocs was created through a unique alliance between AFI and the Discovery Channel, the festival’s Founding Sponsor.

What's tougher than getting up in front of a large audience and delivering a powerful, moving "stem-winder" speech? Well, maybe writing the speech. In fact, very few writing assignments are tougher than speechwriting. It's a life of multiple drafts and trying to capture something that can be rather elusive called "voice." A speech is a story that builds a case and carries a message. Learn in a fun and interesting way about this very personal form of ghostwriting through concepts and techniques. Participants will get hands-on experience and everyone will write a complete speech by the time the workshop ends.
