Paintings and drawings by local artist Nancy Bullough. Employing bold and vibrant colors, Bullough creates both realistic and abstract works and experiments with a variety of media, techniques and subject matter. Bullough is a resident of Olney, MD and received her BA in Fine Art from the University of Maryland in College Park. Please join us for the Opening Reception on Friday, May 31, 7-9 p.m. The exhibition is on view in the Common Ground Gallery (second floor) May 15 through June 16. Free and open to the public.

Look up, down, out and inward. Eric Smallwood uses video and animation to create moments of negotiation between immediate sensual experience and reflection. Eric Smallwood is a visual artist whose work utilizes elements of video, animation, and installation art. He received a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Imaging and Digital Arts program at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County in 2010, and is currently teaching there as an Assistant Professor of Animation and Interactive Media. Wednesday 12-4 p.m., Thursday & Friday 12-8 p.m., Saturday & Sunday 12-4 p.m. Free and open to the public.

With warm summer weather approaching, patrons will be able to delight in weekly outdoor concerts in downtown Bethesda. This series, produced by the Bethesda Urban Partnership, will feature free Thursday evening concerts during May, June, and July. The concerts offer a diverse range of music including rock, funk, jazz, swing, and reggae. The concerts begin on May 2 and take place on Thursday evenings, from 6 – 8pm in Veterans Park, located at the corner of Woodmont and Norfolk Avenues. Please note there is no concert on Thursday, July 4.

To kick off the 2012-2013 season, young artists from Damascus UMC, the Academy of St. Cecilia Youth Orchestra, and the community will share their musical gifts in this annual concert favorite. Performers include Micah Tsoi, piano, who performed at Constitution Hall in NYC last year; Judith Tsoi, violin; Julia Bratburd, voice; Marin Williams, bassoon; TJ Murray, bass; Matthew Fitzsimmons, trumpet; Dane Frandsen, flute; Graham Taylor, voice; and Laura Searles, violin and voice. Katherine Williams and Stephen Kalnoske will accompany these talented young performers. FREE WILL OFFERING will support Worship Arts programming at Damascus UMC.
