Join the scientific staff from the Committee on Missing Persons in Cyprus (CMP) for an in-depth talk about their work on the recovery and identification of missing persons in Cyprus. The CMP investigates cases of persons reported missing as a result of armed conflict during the 1960s and 1970s. A total of 502 Turkish Cypriots and 1,493 Greek Cypriots were officially reported as missing.

Your body is an amazing work of art! Each month, the National Museum of Health and Medicine will focus on a different organ. In July, learn about how your eyes function and diseases that affect the eyes. Explore anatomy, medical imaging techniques used to examine the eyes, and pathology. After a brief lesson, attendees will create their own visual representation of the eyes. Open to the public. Recommended for students in 3rd-8th grade. Reservations required; limited to 20. For reservations, call 301-319-3325. All participants will receive a wearable button featuring the Organ of the Month after each program. Attend each program and collect them all!

Join CAPT. Stanton E. Cope, director of the Armed Forces Pest Management Board, for a brief history of Yellow Fever and its impact on the U.S. and abroad. Learn about the experiments conducted in Cuba by the Walter Reed Commission using human volunteers, including the aftermath of the experiments and the fate of the Commission members and some of its volunteers. Additionally, papers, books and other items, some of which are from the 18th century, will be on display. These items, including a reprint signed and corrected by Major Walter Reed, are from CAPT Cope’s award-winning Yellow Fever collection.
