The 21st annual Rockville Science Day will have hands-on exhibits in science and engineering to dazzle and delight curious minds of all ages. From reptiles to rockets, from chemistry to robotics, from genetics to astronomy, come see what makes science a life-long passion.

The Burtonsville Volunteer Fire Department is proud to announce that we will be holding our 20th annual carnival this year on September 9-12 and September 15-18. For the 2nd year we are returning to Route 198 at Star Point Drive, which is just one block east of Route 29. The carnival opens up every night at 6:30 and is open until 10pm each week night and until 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays. We also are open from 2-8 on Sunday 9/12. Be sure that you come on Family Nights where each child can ride unlimited rides all night for one low fee. The family nights are Thursday 9/9, Sunday 9/12, Wednesday 9/15 and Thursday 9/16. All other nights will be regular price for rides. Also please be sure to stop by our famous BVFD food booth for some tasty hot off of the grill food. Come mingle with Arts on the Blocks most recent high school-aged apprentice artists at an opening reception Friday, September 10th, 2010 in Kefa Café’s Space 7:10. Birds on the Block will feature colorful mosaics and an eclectic mix of handmade greeting cards created with recycled materials by Arts on the Block’s 21 most recent apprentice artists. Visitors to the cafe also will have the opportunity to purchase the artwork and speak with apprentices and staff. Light refreshments will also be provided compliments of Kefa. The artwork for sale and on display was created by participants in Arts on the Block’s recently completed Pour You Art Out workshop. The theme for this exhibit was chosen because birds are a symbol of freedom common to most cultures. Artist and arts educator Carien Quiroga and her assistant, Rachel Gelenius, led the six-week workshop.
