Birds on the Block Opening Reception

Come mingle with Arts on the Blocks most recent high school-aged apprentice artists at an opening reception Friday, September 10th, 2010 in Kefa Café’s Space 7:10. Birds on the Block will feature colorful mosaics and an eclectic mix of handmade greeting cards created with recycled materials by Arts on the Block’s 21 most recent apprentice artists. Visitors to the cafe also will have the opportunity to purchase the artwork and speak with apprentices and staff. Light refreshments will also be provided compliments of Kefa. The artwork for sale and on display was created by participants in Arts on the Block’s recently completed Pour You Art Out workshop. The theme for this exhibit was chosen because birds are a symbol of freedom common to most cultures. Artist and arts educator Carien Quiroga and her assistant, Rachel Gelenius, led the six-week workshop.
